Getting bored of your current Switch games and looking for game recommendations? Here’s 20 to check out!
These are some of the single and multiplayer games that everyone with a Switch will definitely have and be raving about! I’ll insert the game demos too to better convince you to consider getting them and sharing it with your friends! (*^▽^*)
Jump ahead here:
Note: Switch games generally don’t have any region locks so you can purchase them anywhere, and would still be able to play it on your device.
Most of them will offer language options, and you can proceed with the game as per normal even if you bought it from another country, not of your native language.
Single Player (1P) Games:
1. Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild — This game has an open world map of Hyrule for you to slowly discover and save the princess.
It has great in-game graphics and many trials for you to complete before accomplishing the game. Although it is slightly pricey, this well-crafted game is definitely worth your every penny as it is well thought out and certain gameplays are quite complex!
I have yet to complete the game so far `(*>﹏<*)′ as some monsters are relatively difficult to take down!
The game will be linked here if you want to check it out!
2. Pokemon Sword/Shield — Pokemon games have always been very unvaried in their gameplay where you fight the 8 gyms and set out to catch the legendary pokemon of the particular game.
Similarly for Pokemon Sword and Shield, although it is highly raved by fans, I felt it was mostly due to the newer features such as the Dynamax version of Pokemon during battles and the improved graphics.
However, as for the gameplay, it can be completed within 2 days if you grind the game hardcore like what my brother did. It is also slightly pricier than other games.
I bought Pokemon Sword and you can find it here and for Pokemon Shield here.
3. Hollow Knight: Silksong — This Metroidvania style game gives very little instructions on how to play the game and leans a lot towards self-exploration and piecing together the story by yourself.
If you are new to the game, you might take some time to figure out the game and its context, but thereafter, it will make more sense to you. However, if you are the type of gamer that prefers predictable game flows and instructions/ quest-based types of games that help you proceed, then this might not be the game for you.
With that being said, you could always still give this game a go. There’s always room for curiosity and trying out something new!
Here’s where you can find the game.
4. Legends of Zelda: Link’s Awakening — This version of Zelda is like a remake of the original 2D Zelda Links Awakening that was released on the Gameboy! However, with all the improvements and add-ons, you get a 3D version with wider viewing angles, smoother screen transitions, and comes with a dungeon creator, new menus and inventory screens, etc.
Zelda fans who have followed this game series should definitely check this version out and comment back here on your views!
With that, you can find the game here.
5. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate — I’ve played other versions of Monster Hunter back when I still had my PSP (Playstation Portable) and also the Monster Hunter World on the PC. I found the gameplay interesting and decided to try out the Switch version.
In the Switch version, there is a very tedious progression system, where you will need to replay various hunts to get certain items. On top of that, there are so many monsters and this makes the game slightly draggy if you are not the kind of player who likes grinding for progression.
I would still recommend you to try out the game as it has certain features only available in the Switch version, such as the monster Valtrax that does not appear in other console versions!
6. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order — Marvel Fans Rejoice! I’m not a huge fan of the Marvel series, so I did not purchase the game but instead loaned it from a friend. I can say that this game kind of serves as fan service, where it combines all the movies and characters Marvel ever released with acceptable graphics and storyline.
As for the gameplay, I found it to be quite boring as it was all quite monotonous. It is also quite repetitive and requires quite a lot of grinding to defeat the more tanky opponents towards the end of the game which I was not a big fan of.
If you’d like to check the game out, it can be found here.
7. Fairy Tail — If you are a fan of this Manga series by Hiro Mashima, then this is a game release you should look forward to!
Having followed the entire series from start to finish, I can’t imagine myself being in the characters’ shoes where the whole manga is being gamified, with quests and trials, as well as participating in the Grand Magic Games, etc.
The release date has been announced for 26 June 2020 and will be a game I am looking forward to playing!
8. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 — Another anticipated release from the popular manga One Piece by Oda Eiichiro! I’m still following the series even though it is so long-winded and has not ended even after 900+ chapters!
There have been previous releases of One Piece games in relation to the various arcs in the manga. As I don’t keep up with all of the game versions, I can’t comment much about the gameplay, but after seeing the game trailer, this release is the one I am most excited about (Although kinda pricey)! It will feature an all-out battle among the strongest pirates on Wano Island!
The game was released on 27 March 2020, and can be found here!
9. Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ’n’ Fun— This is a game I grew up with during my childhood! I first got it on the PSP, Nintendo DS and played it at times in the arcade, and now the Nintendo Switch! This game has never failed to entertain me with the different difficulty levels for each song.
Although there are not as many songs to choose from as I would have preferred, if you are into Japanese animation or J-POP, then most of the songs would be catered to your preferences. Still, it is a great game to play with friends and family.
Check the game out here!
What’s more, to enhance your playing experience, you can consider getting the Taiko Drum controller, to simulate a real-life experience playing the Taiko! It would definitely spice up your gaming experience!
For the Taiko, you can find it here.
10. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt-Complete Edition — This game is not for the faint-hearted! There is quite a bit of blood and gore, nudity, violence, etc. With the recent hype due to the Netflix Original series The Witcher, this game has been increasingly popular recently!
Although I have not tried it out for myself, I watched the trailer and found it very much similar to the Netflix Original. For any of you who have tried the game out, do leave some comments on how you felt about the game!
You can find the game here.
Multiplayer (2P-8P) Games:
1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — This popular multiplayer racing game can be found in almost every Switch player’s starter pack! If you are looking for a multiplayer game to share with friends and family, this is a go-to game for most.
You get to customize your vehicle and select characters from the Super Mario series as drivers. Then, you race on various themed tracks among other CPU or friends! Apart from all the racing, there are also other minigame modes you can choose from!
If you are new to multiplayer games, definitely check this one out here.
To up your gaming experience, you can consider checking this piece of equipment out! It’s called the Mario Kart Wheel, and it comes in various designs and colors.
You can find it here!
2. Luigi’s Mansion 3 — This game is one with an interesting concept where 2 players mirror each other, one being Luigi, the other being Luigi’s counterpart Gooigi. They will work together as ghostbusters to try and release their friends who are trapped in the haunted mansion.
I am still in the midst of completing the game, but I can say that this game has some really good graphics, animations, and sound effects to accompany the game! It was also one of the more highly anticipated releases in the Super Mario series and I can see why. It has quite a long storyline too!
Here’s where you can find the game.
3. Overcooked 2 — A game that constantly keeps you on your toes as you work it out with your friends in a restaurant frenzy to serve up dishes! It takes a while to get used to the gameplay with various controls you need to get down while learning to strategize and cook, cook, cook!
There is also a storyline to this game, which I have also yet to complete, but if you are not a fan of games with storylines, there’s always a survival and arcade mode to keep you entertained!
It never fails to keep my party and me from screaming and shouting commands at each other while being on the ball!
If you are looking for an excitement-filled game night with your friends, then definitely check this game out here!
4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020 — This game is back with the latest Olympic season nearing! I first played this on the Nintendo DS many years back and was super intrigued by the concept of the game.
It offered me an insight into how the various sports work, especially the more niche sports where I don’t get opportunities to try very often such as surfing and equestrian in a country like Singapore.
This is a game I would definitely recommend to families and friends where you can duke it out as if you are all taking part in the Olympics with imaginary personas.
You can find the game here!
5. Super Mario Party — This is a game filled with various minigames while you compete among yourselves to see who can attain the most number of stars in the party mode! There are other modes such as the River Survival and Toad’s Rec Room mode to discover!
Additionally, you can match 2 Switch consoles together to try out a different variation of the game. Speaking from personal experience having played it with my friends, I highly recommend it for a family and friends game night!
Check out this bundle of fun and minigames here!
6. Just Dance 2020 — This game is a classic! I first had a taste of this game when I still had my XBOX 360 Kinect quite some time ago. This game gives you inspiration for some dance moves you can use at parties while competing with friends in a dance royale!
With this game, it will always be a night full of fun and laughter, and at times provide you with a workout from all the rounds of dancing! They have also incorporated more kid-friendly songs and dance moves so parents can rest assured when playing this game!
Looking forward to a groovy night of dancing with friends? Check this game out here!
As you would need to hold the Joy-con while dancing, here’s a wrist-band that many people use to ensure that amidst the fun and dancing, they don’t drop the Joy-con and damage the controller!
Find the wrist-bands here.
7. Super Mario Odyssey — This Super Mario game brings you all over the globe together with Mario while he attempts to save Princess Peach from Bowser’s wedding plans.
This game introduces new gameplays unlike any other Mario game such as the New Super Mario Bros where you jump over tunnels, spit fire, get attacked by goombas, etc. Here, Mario has new moves such as Cap Throw, Cap Jump, Capture, etc to help him in his rescue mission.
If you’re interested, you can find the game here!
8. Super Smash Bros Ultimate — If you like games like Street Fighter, then this is the game for you! It has a similar concept to Street Fighter, just with an added number of players that you will be fighting against, and with a range of Nintendo characters such as Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc.
I tried the game on a separate platform, and felt that the gameplay was quite boring, although the graphics and effects are pretty good! Also, the game is priced relatively much higher than the other Nintendo games, which was also a push factor for me.
But if you’re interested, you can check the game out here!
9. NBA 2K20 — For all you NBA fans out there, I’m pretty sure you will enjoy this game. There are 2 versions to this game: Standard and Legend Edition. If you are looking to play this game as a hobby, and not planning to invest much time into the MyTEAM mode, then I would suggest the Standard edition as it is cheaper, and has the same gameplay, etc.
The main difference between the both editions is that the Legend Edition offers you 45 MyTEAM packs (20 league, 20 heat check and five theme packs) and 2 sapphire cover athlete cards (Dwayne Wade and Anthony Davis).
Fans can find both editions of the game here.
10. Mario Tennis Aces — Lazy to leave the comforts of your home for a tennis match with your friends and family? How about trying virtual tennis with this game!
Compete in tennis battles be it Singles or Doubles with your favorite characters together with your loved ones, or other players in the online community! Beware that there might be some really intense rallies that you might want to look out for!
Find the game here!
To improve your gaming experience, you might want to get yourself some tennis racquet attachments that hold your joy-cons in while providing you with a better grip! This prevents you from dropping your controllers in a really intense rally!
Find these racquets here!
