Simple Cheese Dakgalbi Recipe

This Cheese Dakgalbi recipe is adapted from Honeykki. I changed the seasonings a little since some of the ingredients are not easy to get!

This recipe is so easy to make at home! Whenever you crave that sinful cheesy goodness, you can easily whip it up to satisfy your cravings!

P.S I don’t have a rectangular pan either so I used my regular circular pan instead. Although it doesn’t look as good as the one in the video, it still tastes like the ones you can get in stores!

Read on till the end to see the cheese pull! 😉

Jump ahead:

This recipe is enough to feed 2-3 pax.

Ingredients:

  • 500g Boneless Chicken (Or any meat of your choice)
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Chilli Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 3 Tbsp Chilli Paste
  • 1.5 Tbsp Honey
  • 1.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Sesame Seeds (optional)
  • Spring Onions (optional)
  • Udon noodles (can be replaced with other carbs)

Video Demonstration :

Instructions:

Marinade:

  1. Cut the meat you have prepared into bitesize chunks.
  2. To a bowl, mix together everything except your chicken and spring onions.
  3. Once the sauce mix is well incorporated, add in your chicken and season it well.
  4. Leave your chicken to rest in the seasoning for at least an hour.

Cooking Process:

  1. Add some oil of your choice into a pan and heat it up.
  2. Once your pan is well heated, throw in the mixture of your chicken and the remaining sauce in the bowl.
  3. Ensure the chicken is well cooked. Thereafter add in your udon noodles. (I prefer using udon noodles to absorb the sauce! If you prefer rice, you don’t have to incorporate this step!)

Now for the cheese!

  • Rectangular Pan: Split the contents in the pan into half and push them to the side.
  • Circular Pan: Make a well in the center of your pan by pushing all the contents to the sides.

Tip: Leave a thin layer of the contents in the pan in the “Empty space for the cheese” so that the cheese won’t stick to the bottom of the pan.

Makes it a lot easier to clean up when you are washing the pan!

  • Add in tons of cheese once you’re done and put the lid on to let the cheese melt for a while.

Tip: You can never have too much cheese so add more than what you think is enough! Once it melts, it will look like there is very little cheese remaining…

Finishing Touches:

  1. Chop up some spring onions to use as garnish.
  2. Sprinkle around and enjoy!
